String Scholarship!

The 2021 Mickey Davis Memorial
String Scholarship Competition

Scholarship Award - $500

Eligibility:  Students of violin, viola, cello or bass who reside in Mississippi or Arkansas, and will be entering college in 2021 to pursue a degree in music performance or education on any orchestral stringed instrument. The applicant must be certified for performance competency by his/her private string instructor and if under the age of 18, must have parental approval to participate.

Musical Application Requirements: The applicant must supply an unedited video/audio performance of his/her playing of 10-20 minutes standard string literature via YouTube link or a DVD.  Variety is required, including both slow and fast music.  Judging will be based on musicianship, tone, control, fluency and technique. Accompaniment is not required. 

Application Process:  The completed application form (available at and DVD or YouTube link must be received by 5:00 pm on Friday, January 22, 2021.

Mickey Davis (1941-2013) was a beloved member of the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra for 35 years and was instrumental in the education and mentoring of hundreds of young musicians.  The scholarship is administered by the Union County Community Foundation, El Dorado, AR.
