The MSO believes in the transforming experience of live music. We are always searching for new paths to innovative music education programs for people of all ages and backgrounds.
Our Education Mission:
To cultivate an enthusiasm for music in children and adults by increasing access to music presented by MSO and to engage students' learning experience in music through our string program.

School Initiatives
Informances
Our Informance Programs are developed to illustrate particular musical concepts from the mechanics of the instruments to the elements of a piece of music to the joys of being a musician.
JPS All-City Orchestra Festival
At 7:00 pm on March 30, 2010, all elementary through high school string students will perform at Murrah High School's auditorium after two days of intensive and fun rehearsal with nationally recognized leaders.
JPS Kinder Concerts
Our Kinder Concert program provides pre-school through second grade students with access to the world's finest music through creative programming.
JPS Young Peoples Concerts
This energetic forty-five minute program is designed to entertain and introduce the full symphony orchestra to third through fifth grade students.
MDE Residency Program
The MSO and the Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) work closely together to bring general music classes to underserved schools throughout Mississippi.
MSO String Program
Our goal is to develop interest in playing string instruments on the part of young people at all JPS elementary, middle and high schools. Our target this year is Second and Third Graders.
Recruitment Demo
At the beginning of each season, a trio of professional musicians visit twenty elementary schools and present the MSO Recruitment Demo.

Premier Orchestral Institute
Our vision is to provide the Premier Orchestral Institute participants with a musical experience that will take them beyond the basics.
Young Artist Concerto Competition
Our Young Artist Concerto Competition offers young musicians the benefit of competitive activity in a professional environment.
Mississippi Youth Symphony Orchestra
Mississippi Youth Symphony Orchestra
MYSO consists of young, talented musicians learning and sharing the challenge of performing a repertoire of orchestral selections for the people of Mississippi and beyond.
