Who May Enter

High school and undergraduate college students (ages 14-22) may enter the Young Artist Concerto Competition. Winners will be chosen from the following instruments: Woodwinds, Voice and Piano.

Repertoire

College applicants should be prepared to perform one movement of a standard concerto for their instrument and orchestra from memory. The Mississippi Symphony Orchestra reserves the right to determine the suitable repertoire for the competition. Movements longer than 12 minutes require the approval of the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra. High school applicants should be prepared to perform one movement of a standard concerto for their instrument and chamber orchestra from memory. The Mississippi Symphony Orchestra reserves the right to determine the suitable repertoire for the competition.

Accompanists

All contestants are responsible for their own accompanists. Upon request, the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra will offer a list of available accompanists in the Jackson area, but the contestant must make their own arrangements for an accompanist. The Mississippi Symphony Orchestra assumes no artistic responsibility for the accompanists recommended.

Awards

Cash prizes will be given to the first, second and third place winners in the high school and collegiate divisions ($600, $400, $200).

The Mississippi Symphony Orchestra reserves the right to select one of the three winners from the college division to perform with the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra during the 2011-2012 season and one of the three winners from the high school division to perform with the Master Camerata at the Premier Orchestral Institute 2011.
