MSO String Program
Our goal is to develop interest in playing string instruments on the part of young people at all JPS elementary, middle and high schools. Our target this year is Second and Third Graders. We believe that music has the power to change lives and will help to achieve educational goals at the school.
Facts that show the power of music:
“Music study can help kids understand advanced music concepts. A grasp of proportional math and fractions is a prerequisite to math at higher levels, and children who do not master these areas cannot understand more advanced math critical to high-tech fields. Music involves ratios, fractions, proportions and thinking in space and time.”

Our select MSO staff of string teachers is committed to demonstrate the best teaching and learning practices in the classroom. MSO provides 145 hours per week of string instrument instruction in the Jackson Public Schools.
Bring MSO Programs to Your School
MSO provides 24 hours per week in the Clinton Public Schools, and 1 hour per week at St. Richard's Catholic School in Jackson. Elementary through high school level students receive 3 lessons per week in violin, viola, cello.
Our String Program is available by request:
- Includes a comprehensive music program with a string orchestra
- Creates equal access to string study, which provides more opportunities for all students

Ten reasons why your school should have a string program:
- Many students prefer the sound of strings to band or chorus.
- A quality orchestra program strengthens a band program - it does not hinder it!
- An abundance of original music exists for string instruments and full orchestra in various styles from classical to rock.
- Rich historical background with works from master composers like Mozart and Bach
- Students can begin string instrument study at an early age because instruments are available in smaller sizes.
- Children are enriched by exposure to multidisciplinary and multicultural studies.
- Lifelong gift to perform and give to community beyond graduation.
- Full orchestra opens up performance opportunities for wind, brass, and percussion students.
- Choral students can perform choral masterworks with full orchestra.
- Musical productions can include a pit orchestra.
Our Recruitment Demo is also part of the string program.
