Principal Cello

Audition Date: Tuesday, May 21, 2013

Annual Compensation: $17,135.38, + health insurance (½ paid by MSOA, ½ by musician)

Description of Position:

This is a full-time or core position as Principal Cello of the MSO. The job consists of two parts: performing all duties of Principal Cello in the Orchestra (maximum of 95 services) and all duties of Cello in the MSO String Quartet (maximum of 40 services).  In addition to performing in these groups, the Principal is responsible for bowing a master copy of all cello parts.

The MSO rehearses and performs primarily on nights and weekends. There are some daytime orchestral educational services. Actual service usage for the season averages around 90. The season begins 9/1 and ends 5/31.

The String Quartet rehearses and performs most frequently during the daytime presenting at least one pair of educational concerts each week during the school year. Several times during the season the Quartet will be asked to perform incidental music for MSO functions. There are also occasional recitals. Actual service usage for the Quartet averages around 40. The season for the Quartet is the same as for the Orchestra.

Applicant agrees to perform all MSO services as requested subject to the terms enumerated in the Master Agreement between the Jackson Federation of Musicians, Local 579 American Federation of Musicians and the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra Association. Winning candidates will be eligible for tenure after the completion of 2 seasons.

The Mississippi Symphony Orchestra presents a 38 week season beginning September 1, 2013 and concluding May 31, 2014. The MSO is comprised of a full-time core of 27 musicians and supplemented as needed by local and regional musicians. The orchestra rehearses and performs primarily at night and on weekends. Actual Orchestra services Musicians of the MSO are covered under a collective bargaining agreement between the Jackson Federation of Musicians, Local 579 American Federation of Musicians and the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra Association. This is a full-time or core position as Principal Trombone of the MSO. The job consists of two parts: performing all duties of Principal Trombone in the Orchestra (maximum of 95 services) and all duties of Trombone in the MSO Brass Quintet (maximum of 40 services).

The MSO rehearses and performs primarily on nights and weekends. There are some daytime orchestral educational services. Actual service usage for the season averages around 90. The season begins 9/1 and ends 5/31.

The Brass Quintet rehearses and performs most frequently during the daytime presenting at least one pair of educational concerts each week during the school year. Several times during the season the Quintet will be asked to perform incidental music for MSO functions. There are also occasional recitals. Actual service usage for the Quintet averages around 40. The season for the Quintet is the same as for the Orchestra.
