Special Guest Conductor to join MSO for Bravo 1
MSO’s longtime Music Director and Conductor Crafton Beck has had significant shoulder trouble for some time and had surgery on his right shoulder in early June. The recuperative period for this surgery is always a long one and while he had hoped he would be ready to conduct Bravo 1, he has been advised by his doctors and physical therapists not to return to conducting too soon. We are very excited to announce that Leif Bjaland has been engaged to lead MSO in our spectacular opening night concert, which will include the music of Ravel, Bruch’s violin concerto with our beloved Concertmaster Marta Szlubowska and Shostakovich’s riveting 5th Symphony.
Leif Bjaland studied with Leonard Bernstein, was Assistant Conductor of San Francisco Symphony in the late 1980’s, Resident Conductor with New World Symphony in the 1990’s, and in more recent years a guest conductor with the Chicago Symphony, Cincinnati Symphony, and National Symphony.
