Nobuyuki Tsujii, the 20 year old 2009 winner of the Cliburn Competition will perform in Jackson on Thursday, April 22 at 7:30 PM at Millsaps College in a unique program that is a benefit for the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra.  In honor of the Chopin anniversary year, Tsujii will perform an all-Chopin program, with the first half for solo piano.  For the second half of the concert, he will join the full MSO and Crafton Beck, Music Director, for a performance of Chopin's Piano Concerto No 1.

The Cliburn Competition is sponsored by the Van Cliburn Foundation, named for the legendary American pianist.  The competition is held only every four years, in Ft. Worth, and is world renowned.  Mr. Tsujii, from Japan, is already a sensation in that country for having won the 2009 competition and is currently the highest volume seller of classical CDs there. His US tour this spring brings him to a number of cities, but only in performance with one orchestra: The Mississippi Symphony.  We are thankful to Lester Senter Wilson and Timothy Coker for their connections in securing Mr. Tsujii and for co-producing this concert.  Lester is Executive Director of the Wideman Piano Competition in Shreveport and Tim is Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities at Millsaps College.
