MSO/JPS School Partnership Program Approved

MSO's program with the schools has three components:

Part one: The string instruction program consists of the study of a stringed instrument by individual students. They are taught by professional teachers who see the students twice weekly. This program is housed in 22 of the district's schools and currently has 461 students. The program culminates in an All City Festival with four ensembles. Outside expert leadership prepares the students in rehearsal toward a public concert for this Festival. We recruit students in every elementary school at the beginning of each season for the string instruction portion of the program.

Part two: MSO's Woodwind Quintet, String Quartet and Brass Quintet each visit elementary schools with a program called an Informance. Students see the fun of music, hear professional musicians in action, hear a wide variety of literature and learn about the instruments and the science of sound production in these scripted and interactive programs.

Part three: educative and fun full-orchestra concerts are provided for elementary students. These are informative and interactive, using the full Mississippi Symphony Orchestra.
