Wade Rackley*

Principal Tuba

Wade Rackley has been the Principal Tubist with the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra and the MSO Brass Quintet since 1993. He is the Adjunct Instructor of Tuba and Euphonium at Mississippi State University and is a member of the Golden Triangle Brass (the faculty brass quintet of MSU). Mr. Rackley is a member of the Capital Brass of Jackson and also plays upright bass in the Graham-Tucker Trio of Vicksburg. He studied tuba with Don Little and Everett Gilmore while pursuing his BM in Music Performance at the University of North Texas. Other teachers who contributed to his education were Pete Kline, Arnold Jacobs, Steve Johns, and Don Harry. Prior to entering UNT Mr. Rackley proudly served as a member of the United States Army Band of New York City at Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn, New York.

He has been a member of the Festival Orchestra of the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria and toured various European countries with different musical ensembles. He is an accomplished brass instrument repair technician and enjoys arranging music for brass ensembles of various sizes. Mr. Rackley met his wife, MSO hornist Scottye Rackley, at a MSO performance at Smith-Wills Stadium in 1998. They own a home in Yazoo City that is “managed” by their three very spoiled cats.
