Principal Bass

Susan Mathews Landry was born in Washington, DC and holds degrees in Double Bass Performance from Brigham Young University (BMu) in Provo, Utah and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (MMu) in Cincinnati, Ohio.  After serving a church mission in Chile, she attended the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland where she studied with Eugene Levinson for four years.  Other teachers and mentors include Barry Green, Bertram Turetzky, Hal Robinson, Paul Ellison and H. Stevens Brewster.

In 1997, Mrs. Landry accepted the Principal Bass position with the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra.  She is a member of the American String Teachers Association and the International Society of Bassists.  Locally Mrs. Landry performs with the Mississippi Opera, the Mississippi Chorus and the Jackson Choral Arts Society.  She has presented the occasional recital and chamber music program while raising a growing family of four sons and a daughter.
