Gayle Entrekin: MSO 2nd Flute

Gayle Entrekin has been the 2nd Flute with the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra and 2nd Flute and Piccolo with the Mississippi Opera since September 2000.  She has also performed with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra in New Orleans and the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra in Indiana.

In addition to performing with the MSO, Gayle teaches music classes at the Mississippi State Hospital at Whitfield, where she works with adults, adolescents and children.

She obtained her bachelors and masters degrees in flute performance as a student of Albert Tipton from the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University.  After graduate school, she studied for four years with the eminent British flutist, Geoffrey Gilbert at his home in Deland, Florida. She then studied music education at Indiana University, where she received her certification to teach in the public schools.

A Mississippi native, Gayle graduated from Pearl High School.  She practices yoga and also loves working in her backyard garden with her favorite perennials, herbs, fruits and vegetables.  In 2008 she married former MSO Principal Clarinetist, Jim Moritsugu, who is now MSO’s Director of Marketing and Box Office.  Among other things they enjoy cooking and bringing up their cats, Simon, and Ivory, Domino and Gita.
