Mr. Berthold has been the Principal Timpanist in the Mississippi Symphony and Mississippi Opera Orchestras since 1981, and is also the current Principal Timpanist of the Meridian Symphony. He is often called upon to play extra Percussion and Timpani in the Alabama Symphony in Birmingham, AL.

Bud holds both Masters and Bachelors degrees in Music Performance from the Manhattan School of Music in New York City where he studied with Metropolitan Opera Orchestra Timpanist, Mr. Fred D. Hinger and New York Philharmonic Principal Percussionist, Mr. Walter Rosenberger.

Mr. Berthold has been on the faculty ofHinds Community College since 1989. In addition to his duties there as applied instructor, Bud has taught at Alcorn State University, Mississippi College, and Jackson State University.

Along with being sought-after as a Private teacher providing Instruction in his home studio for Percussion students of all levels, Budis also an experienced touring performer and clinician. He is very much in demand as a freelance jazz artist and studio musician. He performs regularly as the Drummer/Percussionist in the Jackson based “Capital Brass” brass quintet, the “Plus 1 Jazz Trio”, the “Capitol City Stage Band”, and holds the permanent drum chair in the regionally acclaimed, “Bluz Boys” show band.
