Ann McNally, a native of Wisconsin grew up in Milwaukee and Houston, Texas. She began to play the violin at age 11 in her 6th grade year in the Spring Branch, Texas instrumental music program.  She was concertmistress of her Jr. High and Sr. High orchestras and was a member of the Spring Branch All-District High School Orchestra.  Ann studied violin, voice, piano and cello at the University of Tulsa and received a BME in violin and voice.  She was a member of the Tulsa Philharmonic Orchestra for 3 years and taught strings in the Tulsa Public Schools before moving to Jackson with her husband, Robert McNally, when he became the concertmaster of the then, Jackson Symphony Orchestra.  She has been a member of the JSO//MSO for 34 years and became a core violinist in 1984.   She played in the 1st violin section of the orchestra before becoming Assistant Principal 2nd Violin in 1998.

Ann taught for 15 years in the JPS/MSO string program before becoming a JPS teacher of gifted students (Open Doors) at G.N. Smith Elementary.  This will be her 14th year as a full-time JPS teacher of gifted students.  Spare time…what’s that?  Ann manages to squeeze in her passions whenever she can!  Those include traveling, knitting, attending HD opera broadcasts and going to all the theatre and musical theatre shows she can go to here and in Memphis.  Ann also enjoys performing theatre and following her youngest son’s lead, she has had a leading role in several musicals at Black Rose Theatre in Brandon.  Ann and her husband, Robert, have been married for 37 years and have raised 3 sons here in Jackson; Patrick, Kevin and Michael.
